PhD opportunity in Machine Learning, Recommender Systems, and Fair AI at Télécom SudParis (Institut Polytechnique de Paris). Julien Romero is recruiting a fully funded PhD student to join the SAMOVAR lab for the GRAIL (Grounded Recommendation with Auditable Inference Links) project, starting in September 2026 with a flexible start date.

The project sits at the intersection of machine learning, recommender systems, natural language processing, graph learning, and trustworthy AI. It focuses on two-sided cold start in labor market matching and aims to build explainable, robust, and fair recruitment systems. Research directions include uncertainty-aware extraction of implicit skills from resumes and job descriptions, hybrid generative recommendation with auditable inference links, and fairness auditing for candidate selection.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Data Science. Strong foundations in NLP, foundation models, or heterogeneous graph learning are expected, along with strong programming ability, algorithm design skills, and experience with large-scale experimentation. Prior research experience is highly recommended.

Funding: the position is fully funded through the Hi!Paris fellowship program.
