The doctoral programme starts in Autumn 2026 and runs for 4 years full-time (240 credits), with an initial salary of SEK 32,300/month. The position is linked to a doctoral studentship, and teaching or administrative duties may be included up to 20%.
Applicants must submit a research proposal that clearly fits one of three prioritised tracks:
DCM: Food and Health Communication — research on how food, health, sustainability, scientific expertise, medicalization, nationalism, and digital platforms shape communication and social norms.
MISC: Audiovisual Media & Knowledge Production — research on scholarly video essays, audiovisual media in philosophy/science, the human body in research media, and transmedia knowledge production.
SCOM: Strategic Communication in Risk & Change — research on public sector communication, crisis/risk communication, trust in expert knowledge, and communication around health and environmental challenges.
Entry requirements include a second-cycle qualification or equivalent, at least 240 credits with 60 at second-cycle level, and for the subject area specifically, at least 120 credits in Media and Communication Studies or an equivalent field, including independent projects at both bachelor’s and master’s level. Selection is based on thesis quality, grades, the scientific quality and feasibility of the project proposal, fit with the chosen research area, and the applicant’s ability to thrive in the research environment at Campus Örebro.
Required application materials include a CV, bachelor’s and master’s transcripts, degree projects/theses, a 5–10 page project description, and other relevant certificates. Applications are submitted online via Örebro University’s career portal. Applying for admission also means applying for the doctoral studentship.
