PhD in Microbial Physiology and Biotechnology: Physiology and Ecology of Methanogens at EPFL Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne in Switzerland

EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne) is advertising a fully funded PhD position in Microbial Physiology and Biotechnology focused on the physiology and ecology of methanogens. The project is hosted in the Microbial Physiology and Resource Biorecovery Laboratory (MICROBE) at the Institute of Environmental Engineering, led by Dr. Wenyu Gu.

The research sits at the interface of applied and environmental microbiology, methanogen physiology and ecology, high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics, microbial isolation and cultivation, gas-utilizing microorganisms, co-culture and microbial community function analysis, and biotechnological applications for resource recovery and carbon cycling. It is especially relevant for candidates interested in microbial ecology, anaerobic biotechnology, methane cycling, and environmental engineering.

Eligibility: applicants should hold a Master’s degree in environmental engineering, microbiology, chemical engineering, biotechnology, or a related field. Experience in wet-lab microbiology and/or bioinformatics is an advantage.
