About this position
University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf is recruiting PhD candidates for the international DFG-funded Research Training Group (IRTG) 3215, “Microdomains in Cardiac Disease.”
The programme is a German-French doctoral training environment focused on cardiovascular basic and translational research, with projects spanning cardiac signaling, electrophysiology, imaging, metabolism, arrhythmias, heart failure, and subcellular microdomains. Available projects include topics such as β1-adrenoceptor/cAMP microdomains, PDE3/PDE4 signaling, EPAC regulation, phospholamban function, RSK signaling, proteasome regulation, cGMP pools, gap junctions, mitochondrial dysfunction, endothelial regulation, mineralocorticoid receptor signaling, and intercalated disc biology.
Doctoral candidates will be jointly supervised by researchers at University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and Université Paris-Saclay, with mandatory research stays at the partner institution in France. The programme starts on 2026-10-01 and runs for 3.5 years. For the first funding period, twelve PhD positions are available, and applicants may apply for up to three projects.
The position is suitable for candidates with a Master’s, Diploma, or equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, cell biology, physics, pharmacy, or related natural sciences; medical graduates (MD/Dr. med.) may also apply. Strong English skills, prior research experience, and a strong interest in cardiovascular research are emphasized. The role includes independent experimental work, use of advanced methods in biochemistry, cell biology, pharmacology, imaging, and functional techniques, plus participation in seminars, workshops, retreats, and methodological courses.
Funding is provided through the DFG-funded graduate school, with the advertised position funded at 65% of a full-time E13 salary under the German public service pay scale. Applicants should submit a motivational letter naming the project(s), CV, transcripts, recommendation letter, and immunity documentation. The closing date listed on the job page is 2026-07-06.
