About this position

Are you passionate about making a difference in real-life applications by creating functional nanomaterials? This PhD opportunity at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) offers you the chance to work at the intersection of advanced materials science and global collaboration. As the first PhD student in a new research line dedicated to flame-made nanomaterials, you will help shape the direction of this innovative work while being fully embedded in the collaborative and supportive Power & Flow group. Your research will focus on gas-phase synthesis—primarily flame-based routes—to create functional nanopowders for a broad spectrum of emerging technologies, with a particular emphasis on impactful energy applications. You will spend most of your time performing hands-on experimental research in a brand new laboratory, synthesizing, characterizing, and tuning the functional properties of nanopowders using a flame reactor. While prior experimental experience is required, you will receive comprehensive training in laboratory techniques, safety procedures, and the use of specialized equipment.

International collaborations are expected, allowing you to test the functional nanomaterials you produce for various applications. You will also be encouraged to attend conferences to share your findings with the scientific community. The position is ideal for motivated, curious candidates eager to develop expertise in nanoscale materials and gas-phase processes while working as part of an international team. Safe and responsible work behavior is essential both in and out of the laboratory.
