About this position

AMOLF in Amsterdam is recruiting a PhD candidate for a project on nanoscale charge and heat transfer at metal-semiconductor interfaces. The work sits at the intersection of physics, materials science, nanoscience, photonics, and condensed matter physics, with strong links to spectroscopy, optics, experimental physics, and solid-state physics.

The project is hosted by the Hybrid Nanosystems group at AMOLF, headed by Wiebke Albrecht. Research will investigate how the atomic-scale structure and chemistry of metal-semiconductor interfaces govern charge and heat transfer. Methods include correlative single-particle optical spectroscopy, in situ electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and pulsed-laser experiments to study energy transport in model nanosystems.

This opportunity is especially relevant for candidates interested in nanotechnology, ultrafast spectroscopy, energy transport phenomena, and the physics of next-generation electronic and photonic devices. The post is a full-time PhD appointment for four years at AMOLF/NWO-I. The starting salary is €3,115 gross per month, with employment benefits.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should have an MSc degree in physics, nanoscience, or a related field. Backgrounds in physics, applied physics, materials science, nanotechnology, photonics and optics, or electrical engineering are mentioned as suitable. AMOLF also supports new international PhD students with housing and visa applications, and compensates transport and furnishing expenses.

The vacancy is open until filled. Applications should be submitted online through the AMOLF vacancy page. For further information, contact Wiebke Albrecht at [email protected].
