PhD opportunity at the University of Groningen in Network-Informed Treatment in Complex Psychopathology.

This doctoral project is part of the New Science of Mental Disorders (NSMD) consortium and is hosted by the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences at the University of Groningen, in collaboration with the University of Amsterdam and clinical partners including Traumacentrum van GGZ-Drenthe and Psychiatrie Noord.

The research focuses on clinical psychology, psychopathology, symptom networks, experience sampling method (EMA) diary data, personalized psychotherapy, mental wellbeing, and recovery. The project asks whether psychological treatment for people with multiple diagnoses can be improved by tailoring interventions to individual causal symptom networks. It also examines factors linked to immediate treatment effects and more durable recovery, including the role of meaning in life.

The PhD researcher will develop and implement research protocols, work with single case experimental designs (SCED), conduct causal network analyses, analyze NESDA mental health data, publish scientific articles, present findings to academic and clinical audiences, collaborate with researchers and healthcare institutions, and contribute to psychology teaching activities.

Eligibility highlights: a (research) master’s degree in clinical psychology or a related field, strong communication and organizational skills, interest in statistics and network modelling, affinity with clinical practice, a strong academic record, and good command of both Dutch and English.

Funding and employment: this is a paid PhD position, 1.0 FTE for four years, with a salary of €3,059–€3,881 gross per month, plus holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus.
