About this position

NeurotechEU and the University of Lille are advertising a PhD position in neuroguided TMS for auditory-verbal hallucinations in schizophrenia. The project sits within the Psychiatry, Subjectivity & Inference (PSI) team at the Lille Neuroscience & Cognition Center (INSERM U-1172) and is part of the broader LOOP initiative in the Brain, Society & Technology Institute.

This is an interdisciplinary doctoral opportunity at the intersection of neuroscience, psychiatry, neurotechnology, biomedical engineering, and clinical research. The PhD candidate will contribute to recruitment of schizophrenia patients, conduct and monitor TMS delivery, and help validate treatment efficacy using quantitative behavioral and imaging measures. The study uses a randomized controlled crossover design with active and sham stimulation, and focuses on adaptive transcranial magnetic stimulation for auditory-verbal hallucinations.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must have completed a Master’s in cognitive science or neuroscience, or an engineering diploma in computer science or signal processing, before the PhD starts. The degree must come from a NeurotechEU alliance university. Interest in neural activity analysis is preferred; experience with TMS, fMRI, or clinical populations is an advantage. French is helpful for patient recruitment, though candidates may enroll in French classes if not already fluent.

Funding and duration: the position is funded for 36 months by Université de Lille via the Initiative d’Excellence R-CDP-25-003-LOOP and Institut Cerveau, Société & Technologies. Salary follows University guidelines for PhD candidates.

Application window: submission period runs through May and June 2026, with interviews in July 2026 and a final decision by the end of July 2026. The poster image states an application deadline of 30 June 2026.

How to apply: email the materials to [email protected]. Submit an updated CV, proof of enrollment or degree copy, a tailored cover letter, and two letters of endorsement/support from academic mentors or referees.
