About this position

PhD opportunity in organic chemistry, materials science, and electrochemistry for the design, synthesis, and characterization of conjugated organic materials used as multifunctional binders for high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries.

The project is based between Strasbourg and Tours, France, with collaboration between the University of Strasbourg / CNRS (ICPEES) and the University of Tours (PCM2E). The research combines organic synthesis (including Suzuki, Heck, and Stille couplings), electrochemical testing of Li-ion batteries (CV, GCPL, EIS), and the study of molecular materials and optoelectronic properties.

Research themes include energy storage, energy transition, conjugated polymers, multifunctional binders, and high-voltage battery materials. The project aims to improve electrode integrity, electrochemical stability, transport properties, and overall battery performance while reducing reliance on conventional fluorinated binders such as PVDF.

Candidate profile: strong background in organic chemistry, molecular materials, optoelectronics, or electrochemistry; interest in innovative energy technologies; good scientific English; and strong communication/writing skills.

Supervision is provided by Dr. Nicolas Leclerc (University of Strasbourg / CNRS) and Dr. Badr Jismy (University of Tours). The post indicates a PhD start date in October 2026. Applicants are asked to send a CV, cover letter, and two recommendation letters to the listed supervisors.

Useful links and contacts are included in the post for the host laboratories and application correspondence.
