Call for applications for a PhD in Physiology/Pharmacology at the University of Antwerp in Antwerp, Belgium (Campus Drie Eiken).

The project is focused on heart failure research and investigates a new molecule, EF-1, which activates the receptor ERBB4. Early results suggest stronger effects in female mice, and the research aims to understand why this difference occurs, how the molecule protects the heart, and how the findings may contribute to future treatments for heart disease.

The PhD work is lab-based and includes processing human samples, building and studying mouse models, and carrying out molecular experiments. The successful candidate will also contribute to scientific publications and teaching tasks while working closely with supervisors and researchers in an international research environment.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree and have a background in Medicine, Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences, or Veterinary Medicine. The post asks for strong academic results, curiosity, motivation, team spirit, hard work, and an interest in research, science, lab work, and problem-solving.
