About this position

PhD opportunity in plasmonic-enhanced fluorescence, optofluidic fiber probes, and medical diagnostics at XLIM Research Institute (CNRS / University of Limoges, France) and A*STAR Skin Research Lab (Singapore).

This French-Singapore PhD is part of the CNRS International Research Program FiberMed and focuses on developing a novel biosensing platform for liquid biopsy and next-generation clinical diagnostic tools. The project combines fiber photonics, plasmonic nanomaterials, spectroscopy, biosensing, and optofluidic technologies to detect biomarkers in body fluids with high sensitivity and reliability.

The thesis will be carried out in close collaboration between XLIM and A*STAR SRL / Translational Biophotonic Laboratory, with strong links to clinicians and industrial partners. The student will work within the “Fiber Photonics” team at XLIM and spend the first 12 months in France and the last 6 months in Singapore, with an A*STAR research attachment during the 18-month period.

Funding is provided through a monthly stipend of about 1600 EUR net from Limoges University and about 3000 SGD net from A*STAR Graduate School, plus medical insurance, some housing subsidy, and covered travel between France and Singapore.

Eligibility highlights include a Master’s degree or equivalent, preferably in photonics, bio-photonics, bioengineering, fluorescence, plasmonic nanomaterials, or related areas. The post also mentions acceptable backgrounds in Physics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering, or Materials Science, with at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours. Strong English skills, motivation, autonomy, and the ability to work across disciplines are important; basic AI/machine learning and programming skills are appreciated.

To apply, candidates should email their CV, English application letter, transcripts, and optionally a Master manuscript to Dr. Dinish U. S and Dr. Georges Humbert before mid-May 2026. Recommendation letters are welcome.
