The Division ESAT-WAVECORE at KU Leuven's Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT) is seeking a highly qualified PhD candidate for research in RF fingerprinting, focusing on experiment design and modelling. The group is renowned for its multidisciplinary approach, covering electromagnetic theory, microwave and millimeter wave devices, circuits, and wireless communication systems. This position is supervised by Prof. D. Schreurs, an expert in microwave/mm-wave technologies with applications in biomedical diagnostics and wireless communications.

The research project aims to develop robust fingerprinting techniques for electronic devices by analyzing their responses to carefully designed high-frequency (microwave/mm-wave) excitations. These excitations not only elicit electrical responses but also trigger complex multi-physics behaviors, such as self-heating, which enrich the RF fingerprint and enable efficient device categorization. The work will involve both experimental and theoretical components, including the design and optimization of experiments and the assessment of various RF devices, such as GaN transistors.

Applicants should have a strong background in microwave engineering and machine learning, and must hold a MSc degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field. Candidates are expected to be among the top 10% of their class, demonstrate exceptional academic performance, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English and the ability to work in an international, multidisciplinary team are essential. Prior experience with peer-reviewed publications is advantageous.

The successful candidate will receive a PhD scholarship for up to four years, contingent on positive intermediate evaluations.
