About this position

CogniGron at the University of Groningen is advertising a PhD position on Sensors for Neuromorphic Touch in Adaptive Robotic Grasping. The project sits at the intersection of flexible electronic sensors, neuromorphic computing, soft robotics, electronic skin, tactile sensing, and intelligent robotic manipulation.

The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary research environment within the Faculty of Science and Engineering and CogniGron’s demonstrator programme. The research goal is to develop a sensorized, touch-based control system for a robotic gripper that can adapt in real time to objects with different shapes, sizes, compliances, and weight distributions. The project emphasizes high data efficiency, low-power operation, and real-world applicability, and includes collaboration with industry partners.

Applicants should have a Master’s degree completed or near completion in Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience in flexible/wearable electronics, MEMS, printed electronics and sensors, soft robotics, event-based sensors, electronic materials, or neuromorphic engineering is strongly valued. Strong analytical skills, research experience, and excellent English communication are expected.

This is a full-time PhD employment for four years. The salary ranges from €3,059 to €3,881 gross per month, with additional benefits including vacation hours, an end-of-year bonus, and holiday allowance. The first year is temporary, with extension for the remaining period after a positive review.

Deadline: 21 June 2026, 23:59 Dutch local time. Apply via the University of Groningen vacancy page.
