About this position

PhD opportunity at the University of Cambridge in vaccines and immunisation. This 3-year project is embedded in the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Vaccines & Immunisation and is based at the University of Cambridge, working with the UK Health Security Agency, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and University College London.

The successful student will work with Professor Caroline Trotter on a project to quantify the lives saved by childhood immunisation in England and to develop frameworks for integrated decision-making about vaccines. The research combines infectious disease epidemiology, mathematical modelling of vaccine-preventable diseases, and health economics. The student will also develop and execute a plan for public involvement and engagement.

Funding: home fees are covered, plus a tax-free maintenance stipend starting at £20,199 per year for three years. Research costs are also supported. This is therefore aimed at UK/home students.

Eligibility: applicants should have or expect to obtain at least a UK 2:1 Honours Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.

Deadline: 10 July 2026. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview before the end of July 2026. Start date: January 2027.

How to apply: contact the supervisor first to discuss the project, then submit an official application. Quote reference PP49859 and use the Cambridge postgraduate application guidance page.
