About this position

The NorthWestBio (NWB) Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) is a new BBSRC-funded PhD programme delivered collaboratively by the University of Glasgow, Lancaster University, Queen’s University Belfast, and the University of Strathclyde. The programme offers a range of fully funded PhD projects in biosciences, with research areas spanning plant biotechnology, sustainable agriculture, food security, healthy ageing, and pharmaceutical development. Students will benefit from access to world-leading research facilities, interdisciplinary training, and professional development opportunities, including placements and entrepreneurship training.

Applicants can choose from a variety of projects, including several led by colleagues at the Lancaster Environment Centre. The DTP fosters a collaborative environment, encouraging team science and innovation, and provides a supportive community for doctoral researchers. Students are expected to participate in public engagement activities and have opportunities for professional internships during their studies.

To apply, candidates should have a strong academic background in a relevant field such as biology, environmental science, agriculture, or related disciplines. The programme is open for applications, with a deadline of 4th January 2026. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the available projects and attend the information session via Zoom for further details. Funding covers tuition and a stipend, with additional support for placements and training.

For more information and to apply, visit the NorthWestBio DTP website.
