About this position

Oslo University Hospital is advertising a three-year PhD position in cancer research at the Section for Cancer Cytogenetics, Department of Pathology, in Oslo, Norway.

The project sits at the intersection of cancer genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and spatial transcriptomics, with a strong translational focus on soft tissue sarcomas (STS). The successful candidate will join an experienced and internationally recognized research environment and work with clinicians, molecular biologists, and bioinformaticians to study tumor heterogeneity, identify prognostic and predictive biomarkers, and contribute to more precise molecular subclassification and personalized treatment strategies.

The role includes independent scientific research, laboratory work, molecular genetics analyses, and analysis/interpretation of multi-omics data. The candidate will also contribute to publications, conference presentations, and the required PhD training program.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a master’s degree in molecular biology, genetics, or biotechnology before starting the program/registration at the University of Oslo. A strong background in cancer biology and hands-on molecular biology experience are required. Bioinformatics, genomic/transcriptomic/proteomic data analysis, and statistical/computational skills are desirable. Good English communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment are expected.

Funding: the position is a three-year full-time PhD research fellowship/scholarship financed by the South East Regional Health (Helse Sør Øst), with salary according to institutional regulations and qualifications.

Application deadline: 2026-06-28. Apply via the Webcruiter portal and upload documentation of education and experience.
