About this position

The University of Maryland School of Public Health is offering a PhD opportunity in global health, with applications open for Fall 2026. Professor Heather Wipfli, Clark Leadership Chair of Global Health, is seeking a new PhD student to join her research group. The lab focuses on global health research, international development, and the training of future public health leaders. Students will have the chance to engage in impactful research projects, support faculty and research staff, and mentor student volunteers.

The School of Public Health provides a collaborative environment with access to a wide range of resources and interdisciplinary research opportunities. Applicants should have a strong interest in global health, public health, or related fields.

A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 is required, and experience in public health research or practice is highly valued. International applicants must submit a WES course-by-course transcript evaluation. The GRE is not required for most PhD programs, except for Biostatistics and Epidemiology.

To apply, candidates must submit applications through both the SOPHAS system and the UMD Graduate School supplemental application. Required materials include official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions, a personal statement, and letters of recommendation. The early application deadline is December 6, 2025.

For more information on the application process and program-specific requirements, visit the School of Public Health admissions website or contact [email protected]. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about global health research and international development to advance their academic and professional careers at a leading public health institution.
