The selected PhD student will join Dr. Md. Aynul Bari in the Air Quality Laboratory and begin in Fall 2026. The research focuses on hazardous and emerging air contaminants in residential environments, with an emphasis on air quality monitoring, environmental monitoring, exposure assessment, and environmental chemistry.

Research themes include indoor and outdoor air-quality monitoring using low-cost sensors and cost-effective sampling techniques, field sample collection, laboratory-based chemical analysis, characterization of pollutants of public-health and environmental concern, and data analysis using Python and/or R. Specific topics mentioned include VOCs, PFAS, hazardous air pollutants, emerging air contaminants, and residential-neighborhood exposure assessment.

Eligibility: applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Chemistry, Air Quality/Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
