About this position

PhD opportunity in nanoscale electrochemical sensors at the University of Melbourne, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

This interdisciplinary project focuses on the design, fabrication, and characterisation of advanced nanosensors with applications in biomedical engineering, agriculture and food systems, defence and security technologies, and environmental monitoring. The work is aimed at real-world translation and industry impact, with opportunities to contribute to high-quality publications, patents, and impactful technologies.

Relevant research interests and skills include micro/nanofabrication, photolithography, thin-film deposition (PVD, CVD, hydrothermal), electrochemical sensing, biosensors, cleanroom fabrication, nanomaterials, surface functionalisation, and device/material characterisation using SEM, TEM, AFM, XRD, XPS, Raman, FTIR, and related tools. Additional desirable experience includes COMSOL Multiphysics, TCAD simulations, PCB design, MEMS, AI/ML for sensor data analysis, Python or MATLAB, and wearable/flexible electronics.

Applicants from Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Materials Engineering, Nanotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply. The post states that PhD scholarship support can be arranged for suitable candidates, but no fixed funding package or deadline is provided.

To apply, send a CV, academic transcript, and a brief statement of research interests via direct message or email to [email protected].
