PhD Opportunity in Structural Cell Biology of Viruses and Adenovirus Biology Leibniz Institute of Virology in Germany

PhD student position in structural cell biology of viruses at the Leibniz Institute of Virology (LIV) in Hamburg, Germany.

The project is titled “Understanding genotype impact on post-entry sorting of AdV capsids” and is part of Research Unit 5898 AdBHealth: Raising Knowledge & Boosting Technology – Advancing Adenovirus Biology for a Healthy Future, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

The research focuses on adenovirus biology, virology, cell biology, and structural biology, with an emphasis on how different viral genotypes affect the sorting of adenovirus capsids during late stages of viral cell entry. The post mentions cutting-edge imaging approaches such as cryoEM and cryoET, and collaboration with the group of Prof. Dr. Harald Wodrich at the University of Bordeaux.

Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in life sciences, creativity, scientific curiosity, strong English communication skills, and the ability to work in an international team. Prior experience in imaging, virology, molecular biology, or cell biology is advantageous.
