PhD or Master's Student Position in Additive Manufacturing at École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), Montréal, Canada.

This funded student opportunity is in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and focuses on the project “Design and Characterization of Functionally Graded and Interpenetrating Metallic Composites by Additive Manufacturing.” The work is centered on additive manufacturing, laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), metallic composites, graded structures, thermal imaging, numerical modeling, and materials characterization.

The selected candidate will work with multiple LPBF systems for fabrication, an in-situ thermal camera for thermographic image capture during laser passes, MATLAB and/or Python for data analysis and mechanical modeling, and advanced characterization tools such as optical microscopy, SEM/EDS, EBSD, and X-ray analysis to study microstructure and phase distribution in printed parts.

Applicants should have a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or materials engineering and an interest in applied research. Experience in numerical analysis and/or image processing is desirable, and proficiency in MATLAB or Python is preferred. Experience with characterization of metallic materials is an asset.
