About this position

The Energy Research Centre at Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (FHV) in Austria is offering a PhD position focused on data-driven modeling, simulation, and optimization of future energy systems. The research projects address innovative solutions for the energy transition, including electric mobility, heating networks, and electrical grids. As a PhD researcher, you will work on scientific questions in sustainable energy systems, develop application-oriented technical solutions, and contribute to interdisciplinary research projects with national and international partners.

Your role will involve modeling and analyzing energy systems using data-driven and simulation-based approaches, designing and implementing simulation and optimization methods for energy applications, and actively collaborating with research teams. You will also document and present research results in meetings and publish findings in scientific journals and conferences. The position provides the opportunity to conduct independent research within the framework of a doctoral dissertation at a partner university.

Applicants must have a completed Master’s degree in a technical field such as Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Energy Engineering, or a comparable discipline. Strong programming skills (e.g., Python), analytical and systematic working methods, interest in applied research, teamwork, and good English communication skills are required. The position is part-time (75% employment) with active support for completing a doctoral dissertation.

The minimum annual gross salary is €42,155 (for 75% employment), with actual compensation depending on qualifications and experience. The contract is fixed-term for three years. FHV offers a collegial and innovative environment, flexible working models, and opportunities for personal development. The application deadline is 28 June 2026.
