PhD Position in Air Quality, Hazardous Air Pollutants, and PFAS at University at Albany University at Albany, State University of New York in United States

Dr. Md. Aynul Bari, Associate Professor at the University at Albany, State University of New York, is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join his air quality lab starting Fall 2026.

The project is based in the Department of Environmental and Sustainable Engineering (ESE) in the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering (CNSE). The selected student will work on air quality monitoring and analysis using low-cost sensors and cost-effective sampling methods for indoor and outdoor environments. Research will include lab analysis to characterize hazardous air pollutants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and emerging air contaminants such as PFAS across residential neighborhoods.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold an M.S. degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Chemistry, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Preference will be given to candidates with prior research experience in air quality sampling and chemical analysis, plus working knowledge of Python and/or R. Experience with LC-MS-MS and GC-MS is preferred. A valid New York State driver’s license is required or must be obtainable.
