About this position

TUD Dresden University of Technology, recognized as a University of Excellence, is one of Germany's leading research institutions, renowned for its interdisciplinary approach and commitment to addressing global challenges. The Faculty of Computer Science, specifically the Institute of Theoretical Computer Science and the newly established Chair of Algorithmic and Structural Graph Theory, invites applications for a Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x) position. This role is ideal for highly motivated candidates with a strong background in theoretical computer science, particularly in algorithm design and graph theory.

The successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge research on the design and analysis of graph algorithms, with potential focus areas such as parameterized algorithms, structural graph theory, graph symmetries and similarities, and algorithmic model theory. The position also involves contributing to teaching activities, including mentoring M.Sc., B.Sc., or Diploma students in algorithmic topics.

The appointment is initially for three years, with the possibility of extension, and is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (WissZeitVG). Remuneration is according to salary group E 13 TV-L. The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification, typically a PhD.

Applicants should possess or be close to completing a M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field. Demonstrated research experience, such as publications or a relevant M.Sc. thesis, is required. Strong knowledge of algorithms and discrete mathematics, as well as excellent English communication skills, are essential. While knowledge of German is not mandatory, willingness to learn is desirable due to teaching responsibilities. TUD Dresden is committed to diversity and encourages applications from women and candidates with disabilities.

To apply, submit your application (including CV, cover letter, transcript of records, link to Master thesis if available, and contact details of two references) as a single PDF via the TUD SecureMail Portal or by email to [email protected] by December 5, 2025. For more information on data protection, visit the university's website. The university does not return application documents and cannot reimburse interview expenses.
