The EcoClimate lab at Rutgers University is seeking a motivated PhD student to join the group in Fall 2026. The lab, led by Dr. David Klinges, is part of the Department of Ecology, Evolution & Natural Resources. Research in the EcoClimate lab integrates computational modeling, field studies, and laboratory experiments to investigate how terrestrial species and ecosystems respond to climate change. The group’s work spans topics such as microclimate ecology, biogeography, biodiversity conservation, ecophysiology, and the impacts of global change on species and communities.

Current research projects include linking thermal ecology and biogeography, developing microclimate models, studying tropical conservation in Madagascar and the Peruvian Amazon, and forecasting ecological changes for conservation management. The lab values interdisciplinary approaches, combining data science, fieldwork, and stakeholder engagement to address pressing environmental challenges. Students will have opportunities to participate in international collaborations, capacity-building workshops, and conservation technology development.

The PhD position is fully funded, offering a competitive stipend and tuition coverage. Applicants should have a strong background in ecology, biology, environmental science, or related fields, and experience with computational modeling, fieldwork, or laboratory research is desirable.
