About this position
Stockholm University’s Department of Data and Systems Science (DSV) is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position in Data & Systems Science, with a strong focus on data science, machine learning, and large-scale multimodal data analysis. The research will address extracting insights from complex, large-scale, heterogeneous data, with a special emphasis on temporal and time-dependent data such as longitudinal, behavioral, interaction, and event-based datasets. The project will also focus on machine learning for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, with critical applications in healthcare and other societal domains.
The PhD student will join a dynamic, international research environment, collaborating across disciplines and benefiting from strong academic development support, including funding for books, learning resources, conference travel, and professional development opportunities. The department is a vibrant academic community with over 200 staff and 4,500 students, offering a stimulating research environment and extensive national and international research networks.
Eligibility: Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) with at least 60 ECTS at the advanced level and have completed a Master’s thesis (minimum 15 ECTS). English proficiency at B2 level or higher is required. A background in data science, data systems, machine learning, or related fields is necessary. Selection criteria include analytical independence, research design, ability to meet deadlines, scientific maturity, communication and collaboration skills, and methodological competence. Swedish language skills are a merit but not required.
