About this position
This PhD position at ETH Zürich is focused on advancing the field of electrocatalysis, with a particular emphasis on understanding how electrolyte environments affect reaction kinetics and product selectivity in the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) and related processes. The research group employs a variety of advanced, in-situ characterization techniques, including FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, DEMS, EQCM, and gas chromatography, to gain mechanistic insights into these complex reactions. The successful candidate will join a collaborative and inclusive research environment that values scientific creativity, curiosity, and interdisciplinary teamwork.
The position is full-time and tentatively scheduled to start on February 1st, 2026, or later. ETH Zürich offers a stimulating academic setting, renowned for its commitment to excellence in science and technology, and provides numerous benefits such as public transport season tickets, car sharing, sports facilities, childcare, and attractive pension plans. The university is dedicated to diversity, sustainability, and equality of opportunity, fostering a climate-neutral future and a fair, open environment for all staff and students.
Applicants should have or be close to completing a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical or Process Engineering, or a closely related discipline. The ideal candidate is self-driven, highly motivated, creative, and passionate about contributing to solutions in the global energy landscape. Prior experience in catalysis, electrochemistry, synchrotron facilities, or in-situ characterization techniques is advantageous but not strictly required.
To apply, candidates must submit a single merged PDF file containing a cover letter (describing research achievements and interests), a detailed CV, transcripts of all degrees (in English), names and contact information of at least two references, and representative published research work (papers or thesis if possible). Additionally, applicants should specify their MSc and BSc degree information, including university, date of degree, GPA, and relevant experience. Applications are accepted until the position is filled, and only those submitted via the online application portal will be considered. For further information or questions regarding the position, contact Melanie Darugna at [email protected].
