The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is inviting applications for a PhD position in the Department of Chemical Engineering, supervised by Associate Professor Amilton Barbosa Botelho Junior. The research focuses on the electrochemical separation of critical metals, contributing to sustainable mining, recycling, and the circular economy. This opportunity is part of the supervisor's start-up packages and is situated within the NTNU Faculty of Natural Sciences.

Key research areas include electrohydrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, biohydrometallurgy, process system design, and value-chain evaluation. The project aims to advance the recovery and recycling of critical minerals, supporting sustainability in chemical engineering and industrial processes.

Preferred candidates will have experience in hydrometallurgy and biohydrometallurgy, laboratory work, and mentoring undergraduate students. Additional desirable qualifications include experience or interest in circular chemical engineering, process system design, value-chain evaluations, and prior involvement in industrial or governmental projects. Industrial experience is considered an asset.
