About this position

A fully funded PhD position is available at Tampere University in Finland, supervised by Academy Research Fellow Jussi Sihvo. The research project, supported by the Research Council of Finland, focuses on developing intelligent battery management protocols using real-time impedance-based state estimation methods to maximize the lifetime of Li-ion batteries and their applications. The project aims to advance battery management systems (BMS) by integrating novel algorithms and hardware/software design, with a particular emphasis on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and pseudo-random sequences.

The research has significant scientific, economic, and societal impact, especially in the context of electric vehicles and sustainable battery use. Applicants should hold an M.Sc. in engineering sciences (preferably electrical engineering) and have experience with Li-ion battery systems, BMS, state-estimation algorithms, and EIS.

The position is for four years (2025–2029), with a starting date as early as November 1, 2025, and no later than January 1, 2026.
