The Environmental Biotechnology research group at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, led by Assistant Professor Zhiyue (Philip) Wang, is seeking a motivated PhD student to join starting Fall 2026. The group focuses on developing innovative solutions for environmental challenges, particularly in resource recovery and next-generation wastewater treatment systems. Research areas include microbial pathways, process engineering, mathematical modeling, molecular microbiology, and analytical chemistry, with applications in centralized and onsite wastewater treatment facilities.

The group is part of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering (CECE) and the Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) at UHM. The lab is active in research dissemination, with recent presentations at major conferences and publications in leading journals.
