About this position

This PhD position is offered at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), one of the largest and most dynamic medical centers in the Netherlands. The research will be conducted within the Department of Pediatrics, in collaboration with the Department of Radiology, and is based in the European Research Institute for the Biology of Aging (ERIBA).

The project focuses on immunity and cardiovascular diseases, with particular emphasis on inflammation and lipid metabolism. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team and have the opportunity to work with renowned scientists in the fields of lipid metabolism, inflammation, radiology, and cardiovascular disease.

The research environment is ambitious, international, and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The PhD program aims to prepare candidates for a career as independent scientists, offering opportunities to participate in courses provided by the Graduate School of Sciences. Applicants should have a strong interest in cardiovascular diseases and inflammation, hold an MSc in Biomedical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, or a related discipline, and possess excellent English communication skills.

Experience in metabolism, inflammation, immunology, or cardiovascular disease research is an asset, and hands-on experience with mouse models, flow cytometry, histology, cell biology, or molecular biology techniques will be considered an advantage. Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
