About this position
The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Aalborg University Business School invites applications for a PhD position in Macroeconomics, starting June 1, 2026, or soon thereafter. The successful candidate will join the MaMTEP research group (Macroeconomic Methodology, Theory and Economic Policy), focusing on integrating environmental issues into macroeconomic models to assess financial stability and physical risks in the context of climate change and the transition to a sustainable economy.
The research will involve macroeconomic modelling (including Stock-Flow Consistent approaches), analysis of financial and physical risks, integration of financial data for Denmark, and econometric and time-series analysis. Familiarity with both orthodox and heterodox macroeconomic paradigms is prioritized, and knowledge of the Danish economy is considered an advantage. The position is designed to contribute to the understanding of financial stability and physical risks within macroeconomic frameworks, with a particular emphasis on the Danish context.
Applicants must hold a Master's degree and demonstrate proficiency in macroeconomic modelling and econometrics. Candidates planning to write their thesis in English who are not native speakers or have not completed an English-based Master's must provide proof of English proficiency (IELTS 7, TOEFL paper-based 600, or TOEFL internet-based 100). Enrollment in the Doctoral School of Social Sciences and Humanities is required, and the PhD program includes 30 ECTS of coursework, teaching or dissemination experience, and a 3-6 month research stay abroad.
The position is fully funded for three years, with salary and terms of employment governed by the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the state (AC collective agreement). Aalborg University is an international workplace with a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The main campus is in Aalborg, with additional campuses in Esbjerg and Copenhagen.
