PhD position available at Michigan State University in the Experimental Solid Mechanics Laboratory with Prof. Siva Nadimpalli (Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering).

The project is centered on the mechanics of energy storage materials, with a particular emphasis on sodium-ion battery materials. The research combines mechanical and electrochemical characterization with the development of nano/micro-scale and continuum-scale experimental techniques. The experimental work will be complemented by computational modeling of battery materials, and students will have opportunities to collaborate with research groups at other universities and U.S. national labs.

Relevant study areas: solid mechanics, materials science, mechanical engineering, coupled-physics problems, experimental methods, and computational methods. Applicants with an MS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Materials Science are especially encouraged, and experience with tools such as Abaqus is considered useful.
