About this position

A PhD position is available in the field of medical image analysis and artificial intelligence, with a focus on musculoskeletal (MSK) imaging of the lower extremities. The research will be conducted within Prof. Jef Vandemeulebroucke’s group at the Department of Electronics and Informatics (ETRO), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium. The project aims to develop advanced AI-driven methods for inferring anatomically plausible 3D/4D representations from sparse clinical imaging data, contributing to the development of a motion intelligence platform for orthopedic surgery.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team working at the intersection of medical science, computer science, and biomedical engineering. The research environment at VUB offers access to state-of-the-art facilities and collaboration opportunities with clinical and technical experts. The position is based in Brussels, with a flexible start date between June and September 2026.

Applicants should have a strong background in a relevant field such as biomedical engineering, computer science, or medical imaging, and demonstrate interest or experience in artificial intelligence and image analysis. Proficiency in English is required. For detailed eligibility criteria and application requirements, candidates are advised to consult the official vacancy page.

The application deadline is 19 April 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the official job posting at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel careers portal.
