Umeå University in Sweden is offering a fully funded PhD position in Molecular Biology, with a focus on intracellular host-pathogen interactions, particularly involving the bacterial pathogen Chlamydia trachomatis. The position is based in the Department of Molecular Biology and is affiliated with the Sixt Lab, the Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS), and the Umeå Centre for Microbial Research (UCMR). The research will utilize cell biological, genetic, proteomic, lipidomic, and microscopic approaches to investigate how inclusion composition and interactions maintain the stability of the pathogen's intracellular compartment. This work aims to provide a foundation for future therapeutic strategies targeting inclusion stability.

Applicants should have a strong background in molecular biology, with coursework in chemistry, cell biology, genetics, and microbiology. Experience in microbiology, molecular cloning, human cell culture, intracellular infections, and fluorescence microscopy is highly valued. The position is intended for four years, starting June 1, 2026, or as agreed, and may be extended if part-time teaching is involved. Salary is provided according to the university's doctoral student pay scale.
