About this position

Join the Structured Nanophotonics Group at Monash University, led by ARC Future Fellow Dr Haoran Ren, for a PhD project at the forefront of nanophotonics and applied physics. The group investigates the multi-dimensional nature of light and its controlled interactions with matter at the nanoscale, aiming to unlock new photonic applications and deepen our understanding of optical physics. Research topics include quantum nanophotonic chips, structured-light imaging and spectroscopy, meta-optics and meta-waveguides, 2D materials and lightwave valleytronics, and machine-learning-based imaging processing.

As a PhD student, you will have the opportunity to design and conduct breakthrough experiments in a dynamic, innovative research environment. The group’s work spans both fundamental and applied aspects of photonics, offering exposure to cutting-edge techniques and interdisciplinary collaboration. Monash University provides access to state-of-the-art facilities and a vibrant academic community.

Applicants should have a strong academic background in physics, materials science, or related fields, with a keen interest in optics, nanophotonics, or experimental physics. Skills in machine learning, imaging processing, or 2D materials are advantageous. Honours or equivalent undergraduate degree is required for PhD entry, and English language proficiency must meet Monash University standards.

For further details or alternative opportunities, contact Dr Haoran Ren at [email protected]. Application information and project details are available on the Monash University postgraduate physics webpage. Prospective students are encouraged to reach out directly and submit their CV and academic transcripts as part of the application process.
