About this position

Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) is recruiting a PhD student for an ERC-funded project in Neuro-Immuno-Oncology and Cell Therapy. The research group, led by Dr. med. Marius Mader, focuses on developing and preclinically evaluating novel cell therapy approaches for malignant brain tumors, particularly pediatric high-grade gliomas. The project utilizes advanced methods to manipulate brain immune cells, especially microglia, and offers hands-on experience in cutting-edge techniques. The successful candidate will join a structured PhD program, receive direct mentorship from the principal investigator, and work within a dynamic, supportive team at the Research Institute Children's Cancer Center Hamburg. Applicants should hold a scientific university degree in natural sciences (e.g., molecular medicine, biology), demonstrate strong motivation for biomedical research, and possess practical experience in cell culture and molecular biology. Additional desirable skills include experience with animal models, programming in R or bioinformatics, and expertise in oncology, immunology, neuroscience, stem cell biology, or genetic engineering. Proficiency in English is required. Employment is subject to proof of measles immunization. The position is 65% of full-time, initially for three years, with possible extension, and includes attractive compensation, onboarding, training, travel subsidies, family-friendly policies, health and wellness programs, and dining options. UKE values diversity and equal opportunity. Applications should be submitted via the UKE job portal before December 1, 2025. For scientific questions, contact Dr. Marius Mader.
