PhD Position in Neuroimmunology and CNS Autoimmunity at University Medical Center Göttingen University Medical Center Göttingen in Germany

The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) is offering a fully funded 3-year PhD position in the field of neuroimmunology, focusing on models of central nervous system (CNS) autoimmunity. The position is embedded within the Klinik für Neurologie and the Translational Neuroinflammation research group, led by Prof. Martin Weber. The research aims to understand immune mechanisms in autoimmune diseases of the CNS, with a special emphasis on antigen-presenting cells and their role in anti-NMDAR encephalitis, a prominent antibody-mediated neuroinflammatory disorder.

The project combines experimental and translational approaches, utilizing in vivo and in vitro models, including a novel active immunization mouse model that closely mimics human disease. Research activities will involve studying antigen uptake, presentation, and immune cell interactions, as well as exploring new therapeutic strategies targeting neuroinflammation and demyelination. The group is part of the TRR 274 Checkpoints of Central Nervous System Recovery network, providing a collaborative and stimulating environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Immunology, Neuroscience, Biology, Molecular Medicine, or a related field, and demonstrate a strong interest in neuroimmunology and disease-oriented research. Experience with murine disease models and molecular biology techniques is advantageous but not mandatory. Proficiency in English, good organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team are required. The position is part-time (25.025 hours per week), initially for 1 year with the possibility of extension for 2 more years.
