About this position

The Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen is offering a fully funded PhD position in the preclinical development of individualized antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) for rare neurological diseases. The research is embedded in the division of Translational Genomics of Neurodegenerative Diseases, led by Prof. Synofzik, and is part of the EU-funded Integrated Doctoral Network programme 'Medicine Made to Measure' (MMM), supported by the European Union Horizon Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions programme (MSCA). The project focuses on developing and validating patient-specific ASOs for rare neurological diseases, with a showcase on Ataxia Telangiectasia. The research will involve a wide range of molecular, protein biochemical, and cell biological methods, including cell culture, genome/RNAseq sequencing, qPCR, Western blotting, ELISA, and advanced bioinformatics. The successful candidate will join a collaborative and interdisciplinary team, working closely with European and transatlantic consortia on ASO therapy development. Applicants should have a strong background in biochemistry, molecular genetics, or related life sciences, with hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques and, ideally, RNA therapy development. The position offers a competitive MSCA salary, mobility and living allowances, and the opportunity to work in top labs across Europe. The application deadline is March 3, 2026. For more information and to apply, candidates should send a motivation letter, CV, references, and a summary of their master's thesis and publications to the provided email addresses.
