About this position

The Sensors and Nano Electronics (SANE) Lab at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) is seeking a motivated PhD student for Fall 2026. The research will focus on micro-electronics, logic and memory devices, gas plasma electronics, and related areas such as nanomaterials, supercapacitors, MEMS/NEMS, and electrochemical sensors. The lab is led by Dr. Karum Nanaiah, an Assistant Professor specializing in gas plasma electronics, flexible electronics, and advanced sensor technologies.

SIUC is a leading R1 research university with state-of-the-art facilities and a strong record of job placement for graduates. The School of Applied Engineering and Technology provides an excellent environment for interdisciplinary research and professional growth.

Applicants should have a Master's degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, GRE and TOEFL scores, strong communication skills, and experience in both theoretical and experimental research, including handling chemicals and lab equipment.
