PhD Position in Synapse Assembly, Structural Biology, and Cryo-ET at TU Delft Delft University of Technology in Netherlands

We’re hiring a PhD student at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) to work on synapse assembly, structural biology, and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). The project is centered on understanding how synapses form at the molecular level and on developing a cryo-ET workflow to visualize synaptic assemblies at the nanoscale, with the longer-term goal of pushing toward high-resolution structures.

The lab has recently solved cryo-EM structures of synaptic cell adhesion molecules, and this PhD project will extend that work using advanced electron microscopy and structural biology approaches. The successful candidate will join a small international team and will have access to state-of-the-art cryo-EM/ET facilities at TU Delft.

Eligibility highlights: an MSc in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, nanobiology, or a related field; some hands-on experience with electron microscopy or structural biology; and a strong interest in how the brain works at the molecular level.
