About this position
Radboud University is offering a fully funded PhD position as part of the MSCA STEM-CORE project, focusing on the multi-omics characterisation of stem cell models for corneal regeneration. This interdisciplinary project aims to advance stem cell therapies and biomaterials to restore eyesight, supported by the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme. The successful candidate will join Dr Jo Huiqing Zhou’s research team at the Department of Molecular Developmental Biology, Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (RIMLS), Faculty of Science, in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
As a doctoral candidate, you will receive comprehensive training in regenerative medicine of the eye, including state-of-the-art single-cell multi-omics analysis, genome editing, and in vivo imaging. You will collaborate with a network of 14 doctoral candidates across 9 European countries, participating in joint projects, secondments, and network training activities. The position also offers opportunities to develop teaching skills, with a teaching load of up to 10%.
The research environment at Radboud University is internationally renowned, with access to advanced genomic and proteomic technologies, single-cell platforms, mass spectrometers, and a dedicated bioinformatics team. The Faculty of Science is committed to groundbreaking research and excellent education, fostering an inclusive and supportive atmosphere for personal and professional development.
Applicants should hold or expect to obtain a Master’s degree in molecular or cellular biology, molecular life sciences, or a related field by the start date. Required skills include experience in molecular biology and cell biology techniques, Next Generation Sequencing data generation and analysis, single cell approaches, mammalian genomics, and gene regulation. Experience in stem cell culture and/or computational analysis is a plus but not mandatory. Candidates must demonstrate curiosity, critical thinking, initiative, teamwork and independent work abilities, and excellent English writing and verbal communication skills. Compliance with MSCA mobility conditions is required: candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the Netherlands for more than 12 months in the 36 months prior to recruitment, except for compulsory national service or refugee status procedures.
