About this position

PhD position on science integration at Eawag within the interdisciplinary NCCR CLIM+ on climate extremes.

The project is hosted by the Inter- and Transdisciplinary Research Group led by Dr. Sabine Hoffmann and involves collaboration with Prof. Dr. Karin Ingold and the wider NCCR CLIM+ network. The research uses NCCR CLIM+ as a case study to examine the conditions that enable or hinder science integration in large interdisciplinary consortia.

This is a four-year PhD position with a preferred start date of 1 September 2026. The work focuses on social sciences, science and technology studies, interdisciplinary research, and qualitative methods such as semi-structured interviews, participant observation, focus groups, co-creation workshops, and qualitative content analysis. The project also aims to produce peer-reviewed publications and a practice brief for academics and funding agencies.

Eligibility highlights: an MSc in social sciences, sociology, political science, anthropology, science and technology studies, environmental sciences, or a related field; strong interest in accompanying research and interdisciplinary processes; experience with qualitative social science methods; strong writing skills; good integrative skills; and command of English plus at least one national language.

Application deadline: 7 June 2026. Applicants must submit their materials via the online application form only, and the application should include a CV, publication list, and two recommendation letters.

Contact: Dr. Sabine Hoffmann ([email protected]) and Prof. Dr. Karin Ingold ([email protected]).
