PhD Positions in Cell Fate Decisions and Tissue Formation in Zebrafish at the University of Lausanne University of Lausanne in Switzerland

PhD positions are available in the new Wan Lab at the University of Lausanne (UNIL), Center for Integrative Genomics, starting around February–May 2027. The project focuses on cell fate decisions and tissue formation in zebrafish, with particular emphasis on the retina and early embryo.

The lab aims to understand how developing embryos build tissues with precision despite variability in individual cell behavior. Research combines spatial transcriptomics, in toto live imaging, and computational analysis to connect gene expression, cell behavior, lineage dynamics, developmental history, and mechanical forces. This is a strong fit for students interested in developmental biology, quantitative biology, imaging, and computational approaches.

Applicants should ideally hold an MSc in biology, biophysics, bioengineering, computational biology, or a related field. Helpful experience includes imaging, programming/modeling, zebrafish genetics, or molecular biology. The post also values strong scientific writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, and the working language is English.
