About this position

Tilburg University’s CentER Graduate School of Business is inviting applications for PhD positions in Finance, starting 1 September 2026 in Tilburg, The Netherlands. This world-class program offers a rigorous curriculum and research environment, with a focus on Finance, Economics, Econometrics, and related quantitative fields. The four-year program is structured into 1.5 years of intensive coursework—including Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Corporate Finance, Asset Pricing, Banking, and Behavioral Finance—followed by 2.5 years of independent dissertation research, culminating in three publishable papers. All courses are taught in English.

PhD candidates will collaborate with over 20 active finance researchers, access leading financial databases, participate in research seminars and international conferences, and benefit from career development workshops. Tilburg’s Finance department is recognized as a top-5 research group in Europe, with a strong record of PhD placements at leading universities and institutions such as Chicago Booth, HEC Paris, Bocconi, ECB, IMF, and the Federal Reserve.

Applicants must hold a Master’s, MPhil, or Research Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Econometrics, Operations Research, or related fields, with a strong quantitative background (≥24 ECTS in quantitative methods for EU degrees or GRE/GMAT for non-EU degrees). English proficiency is required (IELTS ≥7.0, TOEFL iBT ≥100, or Cambridge CAE (B)/CPE), and candidates should demonstrate excellent academic performance (top ~5%).

The position offers a competitive salary (€3,059–€3,881 gross/month), 8% holiday pay, 8.3% year-end bonus, over 8 weeks paid leave, hybrid working options, home office allowance, sustainable commuting reimbursement, pension via ABP, and a 30% tax ruling for eligible internationals. Tilburg provides a green, international campus near major airports and a high quality of life in an English-friendly city.

Applications must be submitted online by 28 February 2026, including a motivation letter (with research interests), CV, degree certificates and transcripts, a Master’s thesis or research paper, two academic references, proof of English proficiency, and GRE/GMAT scores if applicable. First interviews will take place in early March 2026. For more information, contact Dr. Stefano Cassella at [email protected].
