About this position
Linköping University, a leading Swedish institution with over 40,000 students and co-workers, is offering multiple PhD positions at the Institute for Research on Migration, Ethnicity and Society (REMESO). REMESO is a vibrant research environment, founded in 2008, with over twenty active researchers, ten doctoral students, and twenty affiliated researchers. The institute is recognized as a priority research area at Linköping University and is integrated with an international Graduate School in Migration, Ethnicity and Society.
PhD candidates will work on independently outlined projects aligned with one or more of REMESO’s five research streams: social transformation, migration and mobility; borders and boundaries; integration and segregation; discrimination and racism; and migrant agency. The program welcomes applicants with interests in international cases, especially those focusing on the global South, as well as those interested in relations between the global North and South or Swedish/Nordic contexts.
Doctoral students are expected to carry out their studies on location at Linköping University’s Campus in Norrköping. The position emphasizes collegial collaboration and transdisciplinary research. Teaching or other departmental duties may comprise up to 20% of full-time employment. The employment is full-time for four years, with possible extension up to five years based on teaching and institutional assignments. Initial employment is for one year, renewable for up to two years at a time depending on progress.
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Social Sciences or Humanities, or equivalent coursework (minimum 240 credits, with at least 60 in advanced courses). Essential qualifications include skills in critical analysis of society and culture, familiarity with contemporary theoretical and methodological debates in REMESO’s research areas, and interest in socio-cultural and theoretical research on ethnic relations, cultural identities, migration, racism, and citizenship in a transnational context. Proficiency in English is required.
