PhD Positions in Migration Studies and Humanities at the Saxo Institute, University of Copenhagen University of Copenhagen in Denmark

The Saxo Institute at the University of Copenhagen is inviting applications for two fully funded PhD positions starting from September 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. These positions are open to all fields represented at the Saxo Institute, with a particular emphasis on migration studies through the Centre for Advanced Migration Studies (AMIS). The PhD programme is designed to train students at an international level for research, development, knowledge dissemination, and teaching assignments. Students will organize and conduct their own research projects under supervision, culminating in a publicly defended PhD thesis.

Applicants must hold qualifications equivalent to a master's degree in a relevant field. For those educated outside Denmark, degrees must be equivalent to a Danish master's or, at minimum, a bachelor's degree with professional qualifications at the master's level. High proficiency in written and spoken academic English is required, and documentation may be requested. Application materials must be submitted in English or a Scandinavian language and include a CV, cover letter, diplomas, transcripts, grading scale description, project abstract, and a detailed project description. Translations and verified documents are required for degrees from non-English/Scandinavian institutions.

The PhD scholarships are fully funded, with a starting salary of approximately DKK 31,242 (EUR 4,184) per month plus an 18.07% pension contribution. PhD students are expected to contribute to departmental tasks equivalent to 840 working hours (6 months) over the course of the programme.
