The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is inviting applications for two PhD positions in Offshore Energy and Coastal Structures, with an intake in Autumn 2026. The research group, led by Dr. Shengjie Rui, focuses on advancing sustainable offshore energy and coastal structures through interdisciplinary research. Key research areas include offshore wind energy, wave and tidal energy, floating and fixed offshore structures, offshore geotechnics, seabed-structure interaction, and ocean and coastal engineering. The group also explores hydrodynamics of platforms, subsea cables, mooring systems, and coastal protection structures.

Applicants should have a strong academic background in Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Earth Sciences, Remote Sensing, Artificial Intelligence, or related fields. Proficiency in programming (Python, MATLAB) and data analysis is required. Non-native English speakers must provide TOEFL/IELTS scores. Candidates should be highly motivated, innovative, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

Dr. Shengjie Rui, Assistant Professor at NUS, is an accomplished researcher with international experience and editorial roles in marine structures and ocean engineering. NUS is ranked #8 globally and #3 in Civil and Structural Engineering by QS 2025.
