About this position
ETH Zurich is offering multiple fully funded PhD positions in diverse research areas including plant epigenomics, visual computing for XR devices, smart sensors and energy-efficient machine learning, isotope geochemistry, and electrocatalysis. These opportunities are hosted in world-leading research groups and offer interdisciplinary training, access to state-of-the-art facilities, and a collaborative, international environment.
Research Areas:
- Plant Epigenomics & Altitude Adaptation: Study epigenomic diversity and high-altitude adaptation in Arabis alpina with the Epigenome Diversity Lab, supervised by Dr. Thanvi Srikant and Prof. Alex Widmer. Research includes genomics, transcriptomics, and fieldwork in the Swiss Alps.
- Visual Computing & XR Devices: Join the Computational Design Lab (Prof. Dr. Bernd Bickel, Prof. Dr. Marc Pollefeys) to develop novel calibration frameworks for extended reality devices, leveraging deep learning and sensor fusion.
- Smart Sensors & Machine Learning: Work on decentralized asset monitoring and energy-efficient AI for infrastructure, as part of the DIAMOND Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network, supervised by PD Dr. Michele Magno and Prof. Eleni Chatzi.
- Isotope Geochemistry: Investigate marine authigenic clay formation and the silicon cycle in the Earth Surface Geochemistry group (Dr. Gregory de Souza), using advanced imaging and geochemical analysis.
- Electrocatalysis: Explore reaction kinetics and product selectivity in CO2 reduction and related processes, with a focus on mechanistic insights and in-situ characterization techniques.
Funding & Benefits: All positions are fully funded for 3-4 years, with stipends and tuition covered. Additional benefits include travel for conferences and secondments, professional development, and access to ETH Zurich’s extensive resources.
Eligibility: Applicants must have a relevant MSc degree, strong motivation for research, fluency in English, and technical skills suited to the project. Experience in the specific research area is preferred. Some positions have additional eligibility criteria (e.g., mobility rules for Marie Curie projects).
Application Process: Submit your application via the ETH Zurich online portal by January 31, 2026. Required documents typically include a CV, motivation letter, degree certificates, and referee contacts. Applications by email or post are not accepted. Refer to the specific project links for detailed instructions.
For more information, visit the project links or contact the listed supervisors. ETH Zurich is committed to diversity, inclusion, and sustainability, providing a supportive environment for all staff and students.
