The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) invites applications for its PhD Program in Finance for the 2026 intake. This program, hosted by the Department of Finance and the Swedish House of Finance, follows the standard U.S. format, featuring two years of rigorous coursework followed by independent research leading to a doctoral dissertation. Each year, up to four PhD students are admitted, receiving comprehensive academic training, supervision from experienced faculty, and access to a collaborative research environment.

The curriculum covers a wide range of finance topics, including sustainable finance, banking and financial intermediation, household finance, private equity and venture capital, empirical asset pricing, machine learning, financial econometrics, international finance, and contract theory. Most courses are offered through the Stockholm Doctoral Course Program in Economics, Econometrics, and Finance (SDPE), in collaboration with Stockholm University. Specialized courses in areas such as machine learning and digital currencies are also available.

Teaching experience is an integral part of the program, with doctoral students encouraged to teach from their second year. Successful completion of teaching duties entitles students to a fifth year in the program. The program also provides customized presentation workshops and faculty mentorship to support students' academic and professional development.
